BASTARD Conference 2017: Call for Presentations & Workshops

It’s that time of year again. Now in its 18th annual incarnation, the BASTARD (Berkeley Students of Anarchist Theory and Research & Development) Conference is a nonsectarian, noncommercial gathering of insurgents who come together to explore and share our unique approaches to anarchy, our selves, and our worlds. We invite you to add your voice to the conversation.

Each year, we select a loose theme to act as a unifying thread for presentations. This year’s theme is Evil, exploring the various ways human beings distinguish between good and evil and how these concepts shape our lives and projects. What place (if any) does morality have in anarchist practice? How does the concept of evil relate to societal attempts to discipline and control? How do we differentiate between reified, transcendent moral codes and those which are contingent upon our experience? Antifa is one attempt to address the question of evil concretely. This topic can be taken in any number of strange and interesting directions, so we encourage you to think of it as a jumping-off point rather than a thematic constraint.

Send your ideas to [email protected]; the deadline for proposals is September 8, 2017.

The BASTARD Conference for 2017 will be held at the Omni Commons (4799 Shattuck Ave in Oakland) on September 16th from 10am – 6pm. We look forward to seeing you there.
